A good, old fashioned fantasy. Sword and sorcery set in a facsimile of medieval France. Pretenders to the throne, a sole, surviving member of the royal house - it's all here. And handled wonderfully by Saintcrow. A strong heroine who tries to solve all problems WITHOUT shedding blood, a consort who does the "dirty work" when necessary - and yet, all is not as it seems.
This is the first in a duology. The second is due out in June. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys high fantasy or medieval historical fiction. The magic in this one isn't terribly pervasive so shouldn't bother those who prefer their fiction real.
